Chapter Four [The End]

Yi Jeong stopped his movement, his hands that were on the cool clay dropped to his side. His expression became blank, and he wondered if he heard right.

“You have nothing to say? When your wife ask for a divorce, you have nothing to say?” Hee Jin voice became more and more shaky as she spoke. She shook his shoulders. “Say something to me! Beg me to stay! Tell me you love me!” She yelled at him. Slowly she slumped to her knees, crying into her hands.

“Why…?” He whispered, and it was barely audible. “I thought you wanted this.”

She looked up at him and his face remained expressionless. He had not love her. Five years she waited and hoped, but he still didn’t love her. She knew he was with her because of their kids, but she had hoped one day he would love her too. One day she realized that it would never happen.

Throughout the five years of their marriage, Yi Jeong buried himself with work. Her father even suggested Yi Jeong move his studio home so that he could be with his family more. To Hee Jin it made no difference. When he did actually moved it, it was his sanctuary. No one was to enter.

Every year she dreaded December 14th. That day was Yi Jeong and Ga Eul’s anniversary. On that day he would not show his face to the rest of the world. He would hid in his studio, and no one was to bother him. Not even his beloved son. December 14th, on their fifth year of marriage, Hee Jin walked past his studio and did something she never done before. She opened the door. There he was laying on the floor with empty bottles of beer everywhere.

She observed him from afar and she could tell he was asleep. She then slowly creeped inside. She looked at his face, and she could see that his eyes were swollen. He had been crying…something she never saw him do. He called out Ga Eul’s name and it startled her. She looked down at his hands and saw that he was loosely holding some photos. She reached down and took it from him. It was pictures of Ga Eul. All were taken from a distant. She flipped through the photos. It was Ga Eul with another man, with a little girl on his shoulders. Ga Eul was smiling brightly.

“You’ll never love me. No matter what I do, or no matter how long I wait, you will never love me.” She looked him in the eyes and he reached down to touch her arm but she moved away. “I saw the photos. All of them. For five years you been keeping up with her.”

Yi Jeong turned the other way. “I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be.” Hee Jin stood up and wiped her tears. “I’m just tired of living like this. It’s too depressing. Let’s just get a divorce.” She turned and walk away. “Stop living like this Yi Jeong. Ga Eul wouldn’t want to see you this way… I’m going to my parent’s house. Please watch the kids.”

That was the day Hee Jin got into a car accident. It was a head on collision and she couldn’t be saved. From that day on Yi Jeong turned his life around. All his kids had now was him, and he couldn’t disappoint them the way his parents disappointed him. He had quit drinking for good.

He decided to let Ga Eul go. She was married now with a good guy that had a decent job. They even had a beautiful daughter. She was happy and that was all he could ever ask for. From then on he would not track her anymore. He had to pick himself up not only for himself, but also for the sake of his kids.

[Back to present time]

Ga Eul stood at the door, hesitant to go in. She looked back at her granddaughter and Ju Yung, and he nodded, ushering her to go in. It came all too fast for Ga Eul, and till this moment she still haven’t processed it fully. She was just at home with her granddaughter then all of a sudden Ju Yung showed up. At first she thought she was seeing things, he looked EXCATELY like Yi Jeong, but she knew it wasn’t possible, Yi Jeong had to be her age now. She immediately knew he had to be related to Yi Jeong. Ju Yung begged her to come with him, saying that Yi Jeong was very sick and could die any day now, and his only wish was to see her before he died.

“We’ll wait outside.”

Ga Eul nodded at Ju Yung and slowly walked inside. After all those years of wanting to see his face, there Yi Jeong was laying there with all sorts of tubes running from his body. She made his way next to him and placed her fragile hands on his. His eyes fluttered and slowly opened.

Tears were forming in her eyes now, and Yi Jeong looked at her with surprise. “Ga Eul. You finally came.” He hand onto her hand as tight as he can.

She nodded and wiped her tears, then reached to push his grey hair aside. “You don’t even have strength to hold my hand like you used to.” Wiping her tears seem hopeless because more tears kept forming.

“I love you. I know I messed it up for us, and it’s too late, but we are soul mates, I will make it up to you next life time.”

“Pabo! It’s never too late. We are together now aren’t we? We don’t have to wait until next life time.” Ga Eul bended over and kissed him lightly on the forehead before embracing him in a hug.

Yi Jeong closed his eyes, and smiled.

“Beepppp”

Ga Eul’s head shot up and looked over at the monitor that was making the sound. She looked at Yi Jeong and shook his shoulder. “Yi Jeong! Wake up!” She shook him again. But there was no response. She ran out the room.

“Ju Yung! Call the doctor! Your grandfather is not responding.” She yelled at him, but his feet stayed planted and he didn’t move. Instead he slowly crouched down and hid his face into his hands.

“What are you doing? Call the doctor!” Ga Eul screamed and turned the other way. “Never mind. I’ll do it.”

“He’s dead.” Ju Yung’s words made Ga Eul stopped in her tracks.

“What?” Ga Eul placed one hand on the wall, and the other on her chest. She suddenly felt a pain in her chest, both physically and emotionally.

After Yi Jeong’s death, Ga Eul fell ill, and was bed ridden for 2 days before she too followed Yi Jeong. Ju Yung decided to bury them next to each other. He knew this was what his grandfather would of wanted. Though his family opposed to the ‘ridiculous’ idea that Yi Jeong was to be buried to some women that wasn’t his wife, Ju Yung didn’t care. In Yi Jeong’s will he split his fortune between all his family members, but he also left Ju Yung in charge of burial arrangements. In his will he also left Ga Eul a pottery school, but since she was dead, it was passed to her granddaughter, So Eun.

“So what are you going to do now?”

Yu Jung asked So Eun. The funeral ended a hour ago, and they since been leaning on his car.

“I think I will move to Seoul, and run the school.” So Eun smiled. “I think my grandmother would of liked that.”

Ju Yung was surprised. “You do pottery?”

So Eun nodded. “Yeah, my grandmother always said I was a natural at it, not like her.” She chuckled.

Ju Yung smiled. “Well maybe you can come see my work, and I could come see yours one day.” He reached into his pocket and pulled something out. He handed it to So Eun.

“Want one?”

So Eun looked at his hands, and his eyes widen with delight. “Is that lemon flavored? I love the lemon flavored one!” She reached for it and popped it in her mouth. “Thanks. You know what kind I hate though?”

“Orange.” They both said in unison. They laughed.

“Hey how did you know?” So Eun asked.

“I didn’t. My grandfather and I hate orange too.”

Chapter Three

[Past – Flashback Three]

“What?” Yi Jeong could not believe what his mother had just said to him. He stared at her in disbelief.

His mother repeated. “I said, I found a perfect match for you.” She continued on from where he disrupted her earlier. “I met her plenty times before, she’s a very sweet and intelligent girl. Her father is Kang Chang Su. You should know who he is – “

“I know.” Yi Jeong massaged him temples. Kang Chang Su’s father and Yi Jeong’s grandfather were good friends, and together they built what was now the So empire. The only reason why Chang Su’s father was not as famous as Yi Jeong’s late grandfather was because he never wanted to get tied down with such fame.

“Then you should know, our families are bound together. I already talked it over with her parents, and they agreed.” She smiled at her son and touched his shoulder. “They are such fans of your work…”

Yi Jeong shrugged her hand off. “Sorry mom but the reason I wanted to talk to you today was because I had something to tell you. I am engaged.”

To much of his surprise his mother laughed. “You couldn’t possibly be talking about marrying that amateur…that commoner.” His mother covered her mouth in disgust. “Art runs in your blood, and you can’t possibly taint it with that girl. She knows nothing of it. The only thing she would ever be able to do, is teach little kindergarten kids pottery…if that!” She rolled her eyes. “That dirty little easy girl.”

Raged filled Yi Jeong. He could not stand anyone talking down about Ga Eul. His mother knew nothing about her, how can she say that. “Don’t talk about her that way!” He screamed. “You know nothing about her so don’t you dare talk as if you do.” He walked closer to his mom to face her. “And she is not dirty, or easy.”

With a swift movement of her hand, she smacked him on his cheek. “How dare you talk to me like that? You never been so disrespectful to me before…and now because of her you are?” His mother scoffed. “And she’s not easy? Hardly. What kind of girl stays overnight with a guy 2 times out the week? I wasn’t going to bother you and your business, but this has gone too far.”

Yi Jeong rolled his eyes and lifted his hands to show her. “That dirty girl that you referring to is what save my “talented“ hands. If it wasn’t for her, I would of gave up on these hands years ago.” He walked past his mother and stopped at the door and asked. “And where were you then?”

“You will marry Kang Hee Jin whether you like it or not!” She screamed at his retreating back.

[Past – Flashback – Four]

Yi Jeong lifted his head as he poured another shot down his throat. It been about 2 months since his mother told him about his arranged engagement, and it had somewhat put a strain on his relationship with Ga Eul. He assured her that he was going to marry her no matter what. That he promised. She trust him and believed him, but it hurts her to see him in such conflict.

He cursed his mother under his breath before pouring another shot down. He felt a pair of hands on his, and he turned to look at the owner of them. He rolled his eyes in annoyance. “Hee Jin… I told you to leave me alone. I would NEVER love you. I love Chu Ga Eul. And only her.”

She didn’t reply but only looked at him sadly. He couldn’t understand why she was like this. Not long after his mother told him about Hee Jin, she started visiting him at his work place. She was a potter herself, and he had to admit, she was good at what she did. And as much as he wanted to hate her, he couldn’t. She was truly a good girl with a pure heart.

He pushed her hands away from his and stared her in the eyes. “Why are you being like this? You deserve a guy that loves you. You’re a good girl, any guy would be happy to marry you.”

And again she stayed silent. He turned back to glass and drown his sorrows in them.

That night he committed the worst of crimes. And that night he managed to ruin his whole life. He cursed himself as he looked at the naked body next to his, and it wasn’t Ga Eul. He could of sworn it was Ga Eul that was in his arms. He managed to steal a girl’s virginity and cheat on Ga Eul at the same time. He had to hide this from Ga Eul, he couldn’t possibly tell her.

[Past – Flashback Four]

It been a little over a month since his accident with Hee Jin. That morning Hee Jin told him to forget that it ever happened. She told him that she would not tell anyone what happened between them that night. He knew he was being a insensitive jerk to both Hee Jin and Ga Eul, but he couldn’t possibly lose Ga Eul.

He moved his hand to mold the clay again but like the last time it broke. He threw his hands down in frustration. His studio doors suddenly open and Hee Jin walked in. He looked at her face and all he could see was fear.

“My parents are going to be contacting you soon.” She spoke quickly. She took a deep breath. “They found my pregnancy test and…”

He repeated. “Pregnancy test..”

Hee Jin walked closer to him. “I’m … pregnant.”

Little did they know someone standing right by the door heard everything that was said.

[Past – Flashback Five]

Yi Jeong,

As you read this letter, I am probably already gone far away. With your money and connections you could probably find me, but I’m asking that you don’t. I know what happened between you and Hee Jin. She’s pregnant with your child, and that can never change. I know you’re not the type of guy that would leave his child behind and won’t take responsibility, so let’s not make this harder on us then it already is. Maybe we’re just not meant to be in this lifetime. I still truly believe that we are soul mates, so lets get it right next life time. By the way, Hee Jin is a good girl, so don’t treat her wrong.

Ga Eul

Yi Jeong held the letter to his chest and cried. He dug his face into her pillow to inhale her scent, he knew he would not have the chance to do so anymore.

Never too late – Chapter Two

Yi Jeong closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Ju Yung kept his attention on his grandfather, this was the first time he was clueless about what his grandpa was thinking. Since Ju Yung could remember, he had always been by his grandpa’s side.

“She was the love of my life.” Yi Jeong spoke. He looked at his grandson. “Your father and aunt does not know this but, it wasn’t your grandma that I love. When your grandma died in the car accident they were just little kids. They were too little to see we weren’t in love. They always had this fairytale story in their heads that we were the perfect couple, and I couldn’t take that from them. They thought of me as the perfect devoted husband because I never remarried after she died, but the truth was, every women was the same to me so I didn’t bother.”

Ju Yung was speechless. It never occurred to him that his grandpa never loved his grandma. He always thought that his grandpa only loved his grandma, therefore he never remarried. “Why…why did you marry grandma then?” He did not understand. His grandpa always told him that if he wanted something, then go after it. So why was it that he didn’t go after his own love?

“Your grandma was pregnant with your dad.”

[Past – Flashback One]

Ga Eul reached over and helped the little 6 year old next to her. He was trying to make a handle for his mug, but it kept breaking. “You have to be patient. If you can’t get it the first time, you have to try again and again and until you can.”

“That’s right.” A masculine voice said from behind. They all turned to look at where they voice came from. The kids squealed in delight and ran to his side to hug him.

“You’re here to visit us again? Are you going to help us with the clay?” One of the little girls asked.

“Stupid. Of course Mr. So is here to see Ms. Chu.” The little boy stuck out his tongue at the girl.

“Actually…” Yi Jeong picked up the two kids. “You both are right.” The kids made a face at each other. The girl reached out and put her arms around Yi Jeong’s neck, and the boy hurriedly did the same.

“Yah! Let go stupid!”

“Why? You let go! Mr. So is MINE”

“Okay, enough kids.” Ga Eul spoke up. “If you two continue to do this, Mr. So would be too scared to come back. You wouldn’t want that would you?”

The two kids, as well as the rest of the class shook their head.

“Besides, Mr. So is mine.” Ga Eul winked at Yi Jeong and he smirked. Did he just hear Ga Eul claim him? The little kids giggled.

[Past – Flashback Two]

Yi Jeong walked into his studio and saw Ga Eul sitting at his pottery wheel, molding a vase. She was so concentrated on it that she didn’t even notice him standing there. He expected her to be there. Every Wednesday and Saturday for almost a year now they meet there. It wasn’t that it was their only days seeing each other, but those were the days that he didn’t go home to his crazy family, and she didn’t go home to her empty apartment, but instead they stayed there only enjoying each other’s company.

“You never learn do you?” His voice startled her.

“Yi Jeong… how long have you been standing there?” She asked, a sly grin then appeared on her face. “Am I that pretty? But then again, what guy doesn’t fall for me after seeing me like this?”

Yi Jeong chuckled and rolled up his sleeves. He pulled a stool and sat behind her, he then wrapped his arms around her and placed his hands on top of hers. He whispered in her ear. “You’re still putting too much pressure in your wrist.”

Ga Eul elbowed him in the stomach, and he let out a grunt. “I’m doing what now?”

“Oh I said you’re doing fine.” Yi Jeong quickly changes.

Ga Eul smiled in victory, and went back to concentrating on her vase. At first Yi Jeong was helping her mold the shape, but soon his hands just become dead weight as they still covered hers, but made no movement. She can feel his lips on her neck, and it trailed further down. She elbowed him again.

“Ouch!”

“You’re not even helping pervert!” She rolled her eyes. “If you’re not going to help, then just move your hands so I can finish.” She felt his hand move from hers and she had to admit she was disappointed. He reached for the towel on the floor next to him and wiped his hands. He didn’t move from behind her, and she can hear him rummage through his pockets.

He abruptly warpped his arms around her again. She turned her head so she can face him. “What? I thought you’re not helping anymore?” She asked, but he just smiled meekly back at her. “Oh I know. You’re just afraid that you’re going to have to sleep on the bench if you don’t – “

She stopped when she felt something being pushed onto her finger. She turned her head back at her hand and suddenly there was a ring on her ring. Her ring finger to be exact. And by now her vase was no longer its original shape but lopsided because of Yi Jeong sneakily putting the ring on her fingers as his hand cover hers.

He spin her stool around so that she can face him again. “Instead of spending Wednesday and Saturday nights together…how about we spend every night of the rest of our life together?” He looked deep in her eyes and all you could see was sincerity. It was no longer Casanova smirk this, or playboy smile that, but pure genuine Yi Jeong.

She didn’t say anything put instead pulled him into a kiss. Her arms wrapped behind him, and she pulled his head closer. He kissed her passionately and his hands roamed her body. Her hand moved to his neck, and he pulled apart. They looked at each other and laughed.

Ga Eul looked down at herself, and then at him. “Look! I know exactly where your naughty hands been! I have clay handprints all over me!”

Yi Jeong touched the back of his head and frowned. “Well apparently your hands were behaving very well, because the only place I have clay on is my hair!”

Never too late – Chapter One

The elderly man slowly opened his eyes. In his state of unconsciousness he can hear his family calling him. He heard his daughter gasp. “Dad is waking up! I’ll call the doctor.” He can hear her rush out the door, and within seconds he can hear footsteps approaching him.

With the help of the doctor the man slowly sat up in bed and let the doctor examine him. “Mr. So do you remember what happened?” The doctor questioned him.

The man thought for a few seconds before replying. “I.. I was having dinner with my family. Then I felt a sudden pain in my chest.” He put his hand over his chest. “Did I have a heart attack again?”

The doctor nodded. “You’re in stable condition right now, but you know…”

The man cut him off. “I know.” He reached over and patted the doctor’s hand. “How’s that son of yours? Still didn’t decide what he wanted to do with his life yet?”

The doctor shook his head. “I don’t know what I’ll do with that boy. Every time I talk to him, he just has that dull look on his face.”

He let out a chuckle. “Your father was like that.” The old man reminisced about the old days when he was still in his twenties. When F4 were still in their twenties. Those years were the best years of his life. “How is Ji Hoon?”

“With a piece of white cloth, and the wind, he can go anywhere.” The two men laughed. “Your family been worried. I’ll let them back in now. Take it easy Mr. So.” The doctor bowed to him before opening the door. A group of people immediately ran up to him. “He is fine now. You can go see him.” They all nodded before rushing inside.

“Dad are you okay?” A man in his fifties was the first to speak. “How are you feeling?”

The elderly man smirked. “Son, did you forget that I’m So Yi Jeong? Something like this can’t bring me down.”

“Yah!” A women also in her fifties screamed from behind the man that was blocking her way. She pushed him aside. “Stop hogging dad! You been doing that ever since I was born!”

Yi Jeong laughed. Though both his kids were already in their fifties, married with kids, whom some were also married with kids, they still had their childish banter. He felt his daughter wrapped her arms around him. “Dad! Stop acting so strong all the time. Let us take care of you. Move in with us.”

“Why should he live with you? He should live with us! Right dad?” The man grinned. They both looked at Yi Jeong anxiously.

Yi Jeong was happy. He thought he didn’t deserve such good kids, grandkids, and even great grandkids. He was their pride and joy and in their eyes, he was the best dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.

“You two are acting so childish in front of the kids.” He scolded them. The both looked down as if they were kids getting scolded for lying. “I’m not moving in with no one. I am doing fine by myself. It is close to the kindergarten, and I can get there very quickly.”

“But dad…” The women protested. “You’re not in the condition to volunteer at that school. At your age you should be letting us take care of you. Sitting back and enjoying life.” The women was clearly frustrated. “If you want to help them out, we can just donate some money. You don’t have to go there all the time.”

“Donating your time, is more sincere then donating money. This is something I want to do, and until the day I die, I will keep doing it.” Yi Jeong looked around the room. Some of his grandkids were holding their sleeping kids in their arms. “I’ll be alright. Just go home and get some rest…the little ones still have school.”

The two siblings were about to open their mouth to protest, but another voice interrupted. “Yes. We should get going. Grandpa is probably tired. Let’s go so we can all rest.” The guy opened the door, and motioned to leave.

And that So Ju Yung. The apple of his eyes, the worm inside his stomach, his favorite grandson. He was the one that knew Yi Jeong better than anyone else. Ever since he was a little boy he clung to Yi Jeong’s side, asking him to teach him pottery. Now in his early twenties, Ju Yung was a splitting image of the younger Yi Jeong.

“Ju Yung.” Yi Jeong called out. “Stay with me for a bit. I have to talk to you.”

Ju Yung nodded. As the last person left, he closed the door, and sat down in the chair next to his grandpa’s bed. “Did you wanted to talk to me about the person you wanted me to find?” And once again, even before his grandfather spoke, he already knew what he wanted. “Can I ask why?” Ju Yung was curious.

Yi Jeong let out a sigh and laid his head back on the headboard. “In my lifetime I had many regrets, and I don’t think I can die with my eyes closed if I don’t know…”

Boys before flowers ending. Thoughts. Who would you fall for?

•April 1, 2009 • 17 Comments

Ah the drama has ended, and I am so sad! I love so much that we had a happy ending…but for me, I hoped more for the soeul couple. I was anticipating a kiss from the two…but we got none! =(  How sad was that? And worst? We didn’t get not even a friggen hug. Though I got to say when Yi Yeong was walking out the airport…he was looking FINE. Ga Eul look so perfect with the kids, and the little girl that asked Yi Jeong if he was from overseas was adorable! I love that scene…but it did not satisfy my craving for the couple. Well I guess they did get their happy ending and thats all I can ask for, and well so did the Jun Pyo/Jandi couple. There were two people I felt bad for though, Ji Hoon and Woo Bin. For one, you can tell Ji Hoon still loves her very much, and its so sad that he would never be able to have her. I wish I can see him have his happiness with another girl. Woo Bin, did not get any scenes at all, and that sucks! He is such a lovable guy in there, and seriously, who doesn’t laugh every time he starts with his ghetto english?

QUESTION: Out of the F4, who would you most likely fall for? Not married…date or whatever, but fall for.

my answer: I would say Yi Jeong. Why? Just because I actually do fall for guys like that all the time. Some are good, some aren’t. I somehow always find my way between a guy and another girl and myself. It’s a curse.

Who would you fall for?
